I strive to be a passionate and caring teacher who leaves no student behind.
I am attentive to the diversity of perspectives that affects student learning and the classroom’s environment. Attention to this diversity shapes what I expect from students, how I relate to them, and how I manage the discussions. In order to increase a sense of inclusiveness and student participation, I adopt several practices, ranging from the use of online forums and reading responses to in-class interactive activity. Since content diversity is also shown to promote inclusiveness, I include in my syllabi as many diverse perspectives as possible. However, I strive to be flexible both in what I teach and how I teach it. The content of my courses and the methods and media I choose to deliver them depend on and are informed by a school's institutional and cultural context.
In 2021 I was awarded the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award at University of Puget Sound.
